New sponsor Marine Products SLC

Marine Products Salt Lake City

You would never think Salt Lake City would be home to a shop of this caliber. It's a shop that you would expect to see in Florida. Afterall, the wake scene is dwarfted by the epic snowboarding just 25 minutes to the east.

The two story building is loaded with every thing any water enthusiast could need.  When you enter, you are greeted by two nice (looking) girls waiting to ring you up.

The wakeboard and wakeskate wall is the most impressive you'll find anywhere filled with Slingshot, Hyperlite, Ronix, Byerly and CWB. Pick your weapon and a set of bindings. Try not to get overwhelmed.

If you don't already have one, check out the selection of Axis Wakeboard Boats on the lot. They sell a few other brands too, but when you have an Axis, what else do you need?

Don't forget your ropes, handles, shades, shotgun koozies, sandals..

If you are as stoked on this shop as I was, there are plenty of MP stickers, hoodies, hats, and shirts to grab and show your support.

Tell Jeremy and Colby what's up, give some high fives, flirt with the girls up front and buy a few things. Drop the Empire Wake name and get a discount while you are at it.

"Out of the Norm" Wake Video

Out of the Norm: FULL VIDEO

North Carolina continues to pump out amazing riders. From back in the day with Austin Langston, Brandon Graham, Brandon King, and Brad Holland to now with Sam Baker, Stephen Pierce, Nick Joseph, Ben Pierce and Matt Deal.

Along with those riders have been some incredible videos and photos such as "No Named Losers" by Teleprompeted Anthems and the solid photography of Jason Hudson. The scene has just continued to develop like no other in the country.

The most recent production is by 20 year old Rob Russell. He shot and edited "Out of the Norm" with a very low budget and shot in just a few months. Rob is from Cornelius NC which is located just outside of Charlotte and attends N.C. State for college.

Here is a quick Q & A with Rob about the film:

q: What was your favorite part about shooting this video?

Rob: Almost every rider in the video lived in a different part of NC, so I got to spend a lot of time traveling around the state all summer and really making the most of my time. The best part was just getting everyone out to ride and forming awesome friendships along the way. Everyone put in an equal amount of work and cared about getting it done, so it made it a fun time. I will always remember the OOTN crew.

q: Is "Out of the Norm" a play on words from Lake Norman?

Rob: Ben Pierce actually came up with the name, and it was a play on words from LKN. When we actually sat down to plan it though, we decided it needed to be about NC as a whole. There was just too much talent and locations to limit it to riders from one area. The name just stuck anyways.

q: What are some other accomplishments in video that you have had?

Rob: I compete when I can in contests or film festivals when they come to town. I want to make sure I have a hand in every kind of filming, and not limit myself to one subject. Finishing this project was definitely the biggest accomplishment thus far. I have a long way to go, though.

q: Do you plan to produce another video?

Rob: As of right now I’m going to keep filming as much as possible, just not for anything as ambitious at the moment. I have a few things planned for the near future so lookout for some new material.

q: What is something you would like to say to all the viewers?

Rob: A big thank you to everyone for all the support and for taking time to watch it, and to go out and ride with your friends! Special thanks to the riders Matt Deal, Michael Sutherland, Ben Pierce, Sam Baker, Gordon Harrison, and Stephen Pierce, without them the video wouldn’t exist.

It's time for college wakeboarding

It's that wonderful time of year when all the kids head back to school, get new clothes, new houses and new friends. It's the time when girls pretend to be lazy in the morning by putting on track shorts, but really took an hour doing hair and make up. It's also that time when riders get together after a long summer and join forces to create their college wakeboard team.

Even though wakeboarding is supposed to be an individual sport, these riders come with a lot of team pride. They want to win and get their bid for the Championships in Las Vegas. There are prizes to be won, pictures to be taken, but more importantly the bragging rights of who is number 1.

We see this each year. Teams take it personally when they don't win. They vow to return to the next event with better riders and more people. They bring flags, tents, and team jerseys to show their unity. There is no more exciting level of wakeboarding.

College Wakeboarding has just begun. In 2009 the Collegiate Wake Series was created in response to a nationwide out cry that college wakeboarding was falling apart. A group of 7 students from different schools got together and rewrote the program over the spring. The result was an explosion of teams. There are more sponsors than ever before. The tour grew from 25 teams to 60. Events are pulling 60-95 riders a day.
The level of riding has grown as well. Teams such as Arizona, Chico St, South Florida, Texas State and Central Florida are pushing all new levels.

What will we see in the next few year? We will break 100 college wakeboard teams, we will see money being poured into the teams from outside support, we will see bigger College Wake Championships, and we will see more school pride.

This is an exciting time for wakeboarding. With the growth of cable parks in the country, teams now can ride both boat and cable. Join a club, and help build the most exciting level in wakeboarding.

GO TEAM! See you at a tour stop representing your school and team pride.

Texas Wake Series - Dallas

Wednesday, July 4th 2012

There was growth this year for sure! The event was viewed by over 2000 spectators who set up on the lake and spent the day watching the Texas Wake Scene. Even with the wind blowing it didn't stop the 25 riders from having some fun.

Nick Storms was the top rider of the day taking first place in open. The advanced division was stacked once again but Anthony Sutton held of Drew Elias and Alex Nicolas who went out to an early injury.

The big news of the day was new comer Piper McCarroll, age 7, riding in the Grom division. It is always amazing to see someone at this age ready to compete and want to push to a new level.

Just as exciting was Chris Brown age 10 who was 2nd place to Piper. Showing some clean riding cutting in and out of the Nautique 210 wake with no problem. The chop got the best of him in the end though. Both these young riders have a great future ahead of them.

The festival ended with a great fireworks show, and the Lipsmack movie viewing on the lake. Thanks to DeepEddy and Monster for ending the festival strong and winding down the day.

The Texas Wake Series is off to a great start for 2012. Look for more events coming this summer!
